Do you ever have trouble updating your firmware?

I never tried it. I thought I'd pull out my old istD to test the waters. What a pain in the ass it has been.

I got an old istD that has 1.0 in it. I spent hours and hours fooling with it. Can't get it to update a thing. Tried connecting it and doing the card, tried the card alone. Why do you make this stuff so hard Pentax? Nothing wrong with the cam. It is like new, bot new and has about 2000 actuations.

Now, I've never updated any cam firmware other than Tom Tom GPS. They are kinda crappy too. I am still not sure if it updated it or not. So maybe the other cam companies are just as bad as Pentax. I don't know? But in this case it is a very poor and disapointing experience Pentax.

I'd just like it if the ist used cards over 1.0 gig. That was all I wanted Pentax . It is less hassle to just buy some back up 1gig cards than to fool with this pain any longer.

Pentax, I'm no computer genius, but your stuff should be designed for the low end people as well as the smarties K.I.S.S. I know this is an ancient cam Pentax, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

When things get too complex it wrecks the experience, unless you thrive on complexities and hassles. A better design would have been to plug your cam in and get the computer to update it with a simple yes or no.

Are you sure you got firmware for correct camera?
Because *Ist-D should support CF-memory up to 4GB by default (there are a firmware upgrade for larger than 4GB memory though), but *Ist-DS need firmware for larger than 1GB SD-memory. And you also need latest firmware to be able to use SDHC type of memory on *Ist-DS.

Nope, the original ones were 1gig. Although I think it may run in 2 gig. But it has never been updated. Put a 4 gig in it and it says error. I have an Samsung which is the same thing more or less. Someone updated it. It takes 4 gig.

I seems like you got *Ist-DS camera, not *Ist-D indicated in your first post.

Sorry, mis-read you post at first. Then I changed my reply.
So what camera is it you try to update firmware on? Is it *Ist-D or *Ist-DS?

Yes please help. I have an ist*D with the ver 1.00 firmware and when I try to update it the camera won't recognize the new file. Somebody once said the problem was corrupt firmware but how would I know and where would i be able to get more?

I've had one instance of a corrupt file downloaded from Pentax. See https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/general-technical-troubleshooting/220112-...ml#post2332505

Also, my Q died when it was updated to V1.12. See https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-q/221933-pentax-q-firmware-1-12-a-5.html#post2358564

It is back in Japan for repair.

Have you unzipped the archive before copying to the card?

Whew! Thanks for mentioning that. I could not get my firmware update to work, then I unzipped, copied the specific .bin file to the root, and viola! You're an f'n genius.
