Looks like after he removed the rainbow pattern from the Fabric there is still a wavy pattern left on Fabric , is that stil Moire residue ?

Just a Dumb question >> why can't image be taken with AA Filter on Sensor and be sharpended in Post rather than be taken without the AA Filter and Moire be removed in post ??

Because then you'd be sharpening every single photo you've taken... as opposed to fixing moire up in the very few photos you may encounter them.

The issue of post-processing will become more informed once we have sample images from users. I wish reports from Photokina had addressed whether Pentax has used any method to reduce moire with the K-5 IIs. Fuji has, from what I have seen, done a pretty good job reducing moire in the X-Pro 1 which also lacks an AA filter.

I think a lot of us are waiting for user reports and sample images.

As you can see, it works... but not very well.
Best thing to do is avoid it whenever possible.
Luckily, it often doesn't take much to avoid it during the shoot.

I think it's easier to avoid Moire at the sensor level than in processing - though for my work I'd be very interested in a K-5IIs. I could see Moire patterning from wavelets on the river, but for macro work removing the AA filter could be a huge boost.

I actually groaned out loud at this. Good one.

Yes, or at least I think so! And, unlike apisto, I did not groan. If fact, that is what I've been thinking this whole time since the subject has come up! So who WOULDN'T want a picture with more love in it!

Yes, those wavy things are called Moiré Eels...

Dude should've used the High Pass filter on his "luminance" layer to completely remove them, then mask it in on top to retain detail in the folds.

Waaay back when I retouched scanned medium-format film (for commercial fashion) we'd get moiré patterns from the film touching the scanning drum, so it wasn't based on the content of the image, but whether the scanner operator wasn't being careful... or not. Moiré can either be avoided or fixed later if you have the mad skillz!

I just can't wait to see some good sample images from the K5IIs to see if it is worth developing the mad skillz! I think this camera is just going to make me wish I was a landscape shooter and not a portrait/wedding!
