Return of the Helios 40's ?

Saw this today, was amazed that it even happened as I though Zenit was nearly or was out of business.
Newly manufactured Helios 40-2. What's interesting is that it's blue coating like IR lens or the lens from the 50's/60's.
Also, the workmanship is worse then Soviet versions.
Renewed Helios-40-2 85mm f/1.5 Lens for SLR M42 NEW in BOX Limited Edition 2012 | eBay

I'm not affiliated with the seller in anyway, I just think it's pretty cool + it might drive cost a bit down if they actually restart manufacturing.

Yep, there was a thread some time ago that the prices of these lenses on ebay went up so much the factory was started up again. I think its great news, its a very fast 85mm and will give some lens manufacturers a run for their money.

They even use the right "Borat" dialect in the eBay ad. Sweet

Interesting. Not sure about the "spinning" bokeh. I feel drunk looking at it.

Check out how much those lenses from back in the USSR cost. Considering that, a new lens like this isn't that expensive, and it probably has better build than modern equivalents (Samyang?)

Way too much money, and I'm a fan of Russian lenses. The same seller has a fixed price listing at $1200/Best Offer. Read the description in that auction if you're into rumors

Now if the Helios shop would sell them worldwide for the 250 euro they supposedly sold them for...

And some test pics here on page 9 Production resumed Helios 40-2, Zenitar, TeleZenitar

OMG! None of those pictures come close to being sharp. The modern quality seems to differ a lot then the ones from the Soviet Union.

Exactly. People say the early chrome ones aren't as sharp as the later black models, but this "new" one doesn't look good at all...except the bokeh is the same as the old version, which is why people buy the Helios-40 in my opinion.
