Because DNG is universal and Pentax is the only camera maker on that list who uses it.

DNG is an Adobe standard raw format that is not camera specific. Some manufacturers, including Pentax, Leica and Hasselblad have adopted this format.

Don't feel stupid. The bigger camera makers like to pretend they don't need other people's standards - a bit like Microsoft used to be, until they got a shakeup by other players.

I had that one on my last computer but on the new computer I opted to not install it. Reason being, when you put photos on the hard drive then go to look at them, windows starts searching and it can slow a computer down if it doesn't have enough ump to it. I just got tired of Windows searching and decided I didn't need the application this time around.

Proper 64bit DNG codec is quite recent in fact. After years of moaning, Adobe finaly did release a proper codec.

Still DNG codec was available last year, improving it is better, yes, but original poster said there wasn't one, period.
