The End of an Era: Steve McCurry and the Final Roll of Kodachrome Film

This is a great video documenting the last roll of Kodachrome being shot and processed.

From the article on PetaPixel about this video:

"The video is much more than just a chronicling of how McCurry spent that last roll of film. As with any great artist, when the NatGeo crew put McCurry on camera he inevitably managed to spout some phenomenal advice. It really makes you appreciate digital (or perhaps miss film) to see McCurry being so careful with his shots, making sure that each one did the Kodachrome roll justice."

What would you shoot with the last roll of Kodachrome?

Very cool. Had not seen this. Thanks for the link.
Yeah, makes one wonder what images to take for a final roll.

Great video thanks for posting!

I'd do what Steve did and travel somewhere I like and shoot the last roll on the trip. Kodachrome always had great blues, so maybe French Polynesia (Tahiti) as it had the most perfect blue water that I have ever seen.

I shot my last rolls of Kodachrome 64 on a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina in Oct 2010.
I will miss Kodachrome, there will never be a film like it again.

Phil.

Sacrilege, I know, but why not make some filter/settings in your processing to mimic Kodachrome on digital?

Great video. A true artist. My dad used to shoot Kodachrome but I never did (even though I had the chance). Makes me wish I had used it.

Yes, thanks for posting! I've shot Kodachrome but often went for cheaper film.

You can’t recreate Kodachrome on digital, just like you can't make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear! (Sorry my mom used to say that all the time when I was a kid)

Same goes for b&w, it looks better on film than digital.
