what's your gear? (W/O Cam&lens!)

Hey everybody,

after just spending a lot of money on a nice Goretex Jacket I was wondering what other Photographers use as "Gear" besides the ever present discussions about Cameras and lenses. For example: what tripod (if any), how do you carry your stuff around (what bag(s)), special shooting clothes for demanding climates, lens cleaning stuff, Filters, ...

Basically this thread is inspired by the "In Your Bag?" column from japancamerahunter dot com.
I am also think about writing down my list and posting one or two pictures - hope I find some time on the weekend to gather everything in one place :-)

Looking forward to seeing how you work.

BR René

Clothing simply depends on what climate I'm shooting in, nothing specially photography oriented, just normal clothes.

My bag is a canvas messenger bag from a random shop, it's not a specialised photography bag, but it fits my gear.
Usually in that bag is:
Map of Melbourne (where I live)
Notebook to note locations/settings as needed
Pen (see above)
Cable release (for the film camera, don;t use it much, more just a place to store it)
Mini Tripod (about 6 inches long, great for quick shots stabilisijng the camera off a wall etc)
A snoot bag for the camera (the big bag is unlined, this protects the camera)
hard cases for the lenses I'm carrying (usually only 2, once on the camera, one off)
spare rolls of film (if shooting film)

And if I know I'll need it either my Monopod, or one of my tripods (light but flimsy plastic one, or sturdy but heavy metal one)

I don't carry any cleaning equipment, since I don't clean my gear anyway :P

90% of the time though I just head out with only the mini tripod/handle, a camera, and one lens. Basically to force myself to adapt and work with what I have.

I like that a lot - there is another reason to do this for me: I am lazy and don't want to carry more than fits into one messenger bag ;-)

A lot of mine is laziness as well.

But I do find that the images I get with minimal gear are of better quality than when I bring the lot.

I think it's because I can concentrate more on "how do I make this shot work" rather than stuffing about with lenses and settings etc and getting caught up in the gear more than the image.

Depends on several factors, like which camera -K-5, K-01, or Q. Also on what I'm shooting that day - family outing, sports, lanscape, museum, etc. I have too many bags but use 5 primarily - dedicated ones for the K-01 & Q and various combos for the K-5 depending on the situation.

I try to always have extra batteries, a lens pen, hood, cloth, remote (both wired in the case of the K-5 and IR), and CPL filter with rings. I keep a tripod and monopod in the back of my car. Each has an sd card in its case as a backup and I keep a good one in my DBG-4 for the K-5. For the Q I have a viewfinder and mini tri-pod in the bag all the time along with all 3 Q lenses that I own.
