New Camera - do you have a first shot plan ?

There was a thread in the Post Your Photo's of a new K5 iis and their first shot. It made me wonder when I get a new camera body , what do I usually do for my first shot ? I really don't have a strategy / plan. If it is winter , the shot is likely indoors. Fall / Spring / Summer - I may go somewhere. It also depends if I bought it new from a retail outlet (thus a known time when I will physically have it and can plan an outing) versus and online purchase where I will have to wait several days / weeks. I also try and test some of the 'new' features, be they better AF or less noise at higher ISO, etc.

My first shot could be a close up picture of a coffee table , nature or landscapes. I think it would be cool to actually have a first shot planned then you could compare them unprocessed and processed as the later skill likely changes as well.

Do you have something in mind (ie: Pre planned) for your first shot with a new camera / body ? I guess this could also apply to a new lens as well.

Dave, I always think about that with a new camera, but never actually make any memorable shot. With my newest camera, the X20, I think I shot my foot, and it was not all that impressive!

Regards!

My first shots? I charge the battery and stick a card in the camera and just start shooting a bunch of random stuff around the house and outside if weather permitting. No plan, nothing memorable. I want to get used to the camera, controls, etc and also just to see if it works.

Rofl. ^

The first shot I took with my K-5 II was of a wall of cameras and lenses in the shop. It even contained Pentax lenses!

Better done with a new camera than a new gun

My word that's a pretty rare shop these days.

It's the ONLY one. The other is web based.

A total of two. Which makes it one per million people, which I think is actually the largest concentration in the world.

I always try to shoot something I'm familiar with under similar lighting conditions, purely because I know what to expect.

My first shot is usually what ever happens to get in front of the camera. Me, dog, back of lens cap. I've got them all..

Interesting some do indeed have a plan - I am like most of of you new body or lens same procedure - get try and take a shot - realize the lens cap is on. Take Lens cap off. focus on anything in the immediate area take a shot - then I wait twelve seconds because the last time I use the camera was on a tripod group shot where I was included. Third attempt is usually pretty good.
