500px Time to move on?

500px's latest move is to add functionality to allow direct uploading from instagram and start heavily promoting smartphone photography on their site. I absolutely regret buying a year's worth of service there as it comes across as a huge shift in the community direction.

Sure they went out and trolled around for a couple of people using DSLR mount attachments for their iphone and who spent hours and hours editing a smartphone photo to get it remotely passable to help promote the content, but you know it's going to be nothing more than people snapping and upload with zero thought or effort.

Can't really say what you should do as I don't know what you want from the host site. I recently "moved on" from Photobucket, due mainly to them "upgrading" it into uselessness for several months.

I moved to SlickPic, which is relatively new. It has few features PB doesn't and vice versa. I can adjust :-)

PB finally has gotten back to being OK to use, but too late.

One benefit of moving was I got to reorganize the albums, which once you start linking to, you can't really move the photos around. It was getting to be a mess on PB.

I just want a place I can organize photos in albums, and link to from here.

I think with 500px it had a certain feel and expectation but this change really affects the overall feel of the site. it had a more professional feel to it, people could sell quality prints, build move portfolios, and general random image hosting was basically out of it. not like photo bucket. it wasn't a generic image holder. but with this I think you will see it flooded with every single snap that someone tosses a filter on and uploads. it cheapens the brand which wasn't what I paid for.

The worst thing 500px ever did was offer unlimited uploads. It's been in decline ever since they opened the flood gates. I was going to pop for an "awesome" account a year or so ago and when I saw the flood of series snaps start surging into the site I lost interest. I still maintain a small portfolio there, and have a few photographers I follow for muse but that's it.
