Not sure if good or bad. More powerful software is a good thing, the problem is that batteries haven't evolved at the same pace, so you need more power hungry hardware to run the software competing for battery you should be using to... actually take photos.

I'm not 100% sure but i believe the Prime II usese a dual ARM core, and that processor is already a couple of years old.

Actually the most power hungery device is the screen.

I'm sure some are already there in the DIY area - all your electronics need is a means to communicate to an app and you're done.

Samsung NX20 - Is For Real

I have been a loyal Pentaxian since my first Spotmatic. For those of you that have never heard of a "Spotmatic", it was a 35mm film SLR. At the time, it was, arguably, one of the most advanced cameras in the world.

As Pentax has moved into the digital age, I went right along with them. MY setup includes: two K-5IIs bodies with D-BG4 grips, DA* 16-50, DA* 60-250, FA 18-270, DA 55-300 and several good old "F" series lenses which I have just never been able to give up, I admit that I also have strayed a bit and have the SigmBigma, a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and my flash is a Metz setup.
But, I think you can see that I am, in fact, a true "Pentaxian". I even have an Optio for scuba.

So, while this post is "off topic" as far as Pentax goes, I truly wish I could be writing about my "new Pentax". I wonder if my adding a Samsung to my setup made them so mad that they are changing the name to "Ricoh".

When I first heard about the Samsung NX20, I thought it might be a convenient, light, carry around and I decided to check it out. I had never heard of the NX line and had hoped that, as many previous Samsung bodies have, it was compatible with the Pentax mount. I discovered, unfortunately, that it did not use a Pentax mount and meant a new set of lenses. So, I opted not to purchase.

However, after reading some of the reviews and finding an incredible buy on the NX20, I could no longer resist. So, I now have an NX20, 50-200 OIS, and 18-55 OIS which will become my "walk around" setup. Even with the 50-200 it is very light and easy to carry. Yes, it is light because the body is primarily plastic. However, the build seems excellent. As indicated previously, when it comes to photographic equipment, I have always been a Pentaxian. However, quite frankly, when it comes to about anything else that is electronic, I guess I would have to call myself a "Samsungian". Just about everything in my home from my TV to stove to the monitor I am viewing is made by Samsung. I have always found their products to be well-built, reliable and, if you do some searching, reasonably priced. And, the very few times I have been in need of support, they have been right on spot. I would have to rate their support as five star.

I have fairly large hands yet the camera feels very comfortable. The controls are well placed and easy to use. The viewfinder and display is excellent. While I have never been completely satisfied with the rear screen on my K5s, I find the articulated AMOLED screen on the DX20 to be very easy to view and, since you can move it to just about any viewing position, it is great for those hard to get shots.

I shoot a lot of moving objects . . . birds, animals and people (and, yes, we are sometimes like animals). So, I am really looking forward to using the 8.6 fps continuous burst. And when shooting a live concert, continuous mode allows one to catch some really great shots. And, for those you that shoot RAW, a I usually do, it shoots in both RAW (SRW extension)and JPEG. Also, both Photoshop and LightRoom recognize the NX RAW extension.

I have only had the Samsung for a couple of days and am just getting used to it and shooting test shots to learn how to use the camera, When I have some good shots, I will post them.

One last point. One area where Pentax, and just about every other manufacturer, could really learn a lot is in the way that Samsung has written the user manual. It is so easy to read and understand that I believe a person who has never before handled a DSLR would have no difficulty in using this camera. It is probably one of the best user manuals, for any product, I have ever seen.
