Now if only we had cameras that could handle the speed.

B&H has a few... They are quite expensive though. The cheapest being $335

Panasonic AJ-MPD1G microP2 Drive USB 3.0 Card Reader AJ-MPD1G

Sonnet Qio Universal Media Reader QIO-PCIE B&H Photo Video

Sonnet QIO-E34 Professional Universal Media Reader/Writer

I bet prices will drop when the UHS-II cards are actually released.

Good to know because when I looked at my USB3.0 readers they are NOT able to meet that speed.

Most mainstream hard drives are limited to around 100 MB/s transfers for datasets larger than their buffers, so unless you are using a solid state drive or some high speed drive or specialty array (e.g. RAID 0, etc.) you'll be limited on the other end.

I have SSDs in raid. It's insane speed. Of course most people simply don't have that kind of setup, so for now at least that's pretty much goign to be a theoretical top speed for them. Kinda like trying to dump a gallon of milk through a straw. Therotically that gallow will dump out at a much higher rate, but the straw will only allow so much through, so while it sounds nice, you're not getting any benefit from it.

My $19 Pretec P240 USB 3.0 Multi Card Reader reads @ 90mb/s with my low cost Sony 16gb 94mb/s SDHC cards that cost me $18.95 for two of them at B&H. I will get the 260MB/s cards when they drop to that price but not before.

The Sony cards are about 45MB/s write, correct? Just looked on B&H's site and they say max 45MB/s write with minumum transfer rate of 10MB/s.

The read speed can be totally misleading as I have seen some cards that claim about the same read speed, but the max write speed is only 20MB/s.

The mfgs should really list the write speed as that is way more important for camera usage then read speed is. Sony doesn't even list the write speed on their page.

Yes, that is why I have stayed with SanDisk SD cards.

He was looked at the wrong Sony card, the Sony cards I have are much faster than my 64GB Sandisk 45mb/s SDXC card.
