Wow, could you imagine being one of them? Turn of that century, exploring brutal land without WR lenses and body? No thanks.

They were so worried about freezing their lithium batteries, they never made it to the pole.

Remarkable that they were not only getting there but also taking their gear along. Must have been gut wrenching to see their ship leave without them.

Currently a Russian ship to Antarctica is stuck in ice and the Chinese icebreaker sent to free them had to turn back.

Actually Antarctica is the perfect environment for long term storage of film. It’s the coldest and driest (also the windiest) continent on earth, so it’s not surprising these negatives survived.

If someone left a memory card in Antarctica for 100 years, I don’t think the results would be the same.
