That was at the London Olympics. No doubt Canon will be in Sochi, but probably not with the same level of presence that they had in London in 2012.

All those white lenses are dangerous in Sochi. Snow-camo if you put it down for a moment

I wonder if Canon makes a profit from pro services or if it's viewed as marketing.

Probably considered marketing.

I chatted with pro Doug Mills at the 2010 Winter Olympics at Whistler. He said all his camera gear was supplied to him. He couldn't afford to buy all the stuff he would have needed for the gig.

Wow! And this is exactly why Pentax is not a common household name like Canon is
Can you imagine such a room with K-3 and Pentax 560mm??

I wonder if these photographers are getting to stay in the class & luxury currently being lavished upon our athletes...

Sarcasm doesn't always come across well over the internet.

Simply handling the volume of data that is going to generate is going to be a huge job, let alone selecting and processing those images. I don't envy him.
This comment is what jumped out at me too. I like photography because I enjoy the process and the art.. but with such a volume of photos, I don't think it would remain enjoyable.. more of a robotic chore.. esp afterwards with any culling and PPing. No, thanks!

True. But I have a great, big, wide sarcastic streak.

Sochi was NOT prepared to host these athletes. At all. Toilets that can't handle paper or "solids". Flooded hallways. Rooms with malfunctioning locks, no locks or even no door knobs. Wiring hanging from the ceiling. They should be embarrassed & ashamed of themselves.

Yes, look at the door that the American bobsledder did his best impression of the Koolaid man on... it looks like honeycombed cardboard tubes with a thin veneer over it.. I bet it cost a few hundred dollars too...

I think there is a lot of corruption anywhere big money is.. but never so obvious as these Russian hosted Olympics.

In any case, I look forward to the Olympics in Rio.. warm location on the beach.. but I hear they have really bad crime there too.. really, reallyyy bad..

I worry that Rio will be even more backwards and unprepared.

Rio will be a disaster for the WorldCup and the Olympics.

During the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, they had the same troubles. Complete unreadiness, dogs sleeping in rooms, and such. However, the roads were nice and smooth for us cyclists to fly on.

The Sochi troubles are not unique. If you dig in, you'll find these issues are quite common for places hosting large scale events like this. Especially for the first time.
