What forms to use and where to find them

Hello,

I wanted to start taking people's pictures (family, couples, etc.) I would like to find out what kind of forms / releases I need and where I could find some generic ones... been googling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm? You'll need to be more specific. In what jurisdiction will you be taking the pictures? I assume you're going to be trying to sell the pictures to the public?

In the USA, selling them (hopefully ;-) ) to the people I take them of.

I wanted start taking people's pictures (very cheap or free at first), If it works for me, then will charge accordingly. Currently, two family members are in sports at school and I take pictures for their websites. I would like to also branch off of this and have some income doing photo shoots / sessions.

A model release form is for your protection in questions of exploitation of the model, and legal cases arising out of such disputes.

If you take a picture of someone for them on a client/photographer basis and don't sell it or publish it anywhere but instead give it to them in return for money, your safe.

Its a commissioned work done for them.

In other words they are not a model they are a client.

Do you intent to distribute their images to future customers and they are merely the subject or are they your sole customer.

You don't need forms for that.

If you wish to sell the images to someone other than your portrait client however you will need a model release. If you want to use the images to promote your portraiture business you should get their permission first, in which case a model release would be advisable.
