I'd love to know how this all came about. I'm imagining Rod's camp offering the stated $1,500. The photographer being insulted and making a counter offer far above what Rod's camp considered reasonable. Rod's camp being insulted by this, threatens to just hire someone to remake the image and continues to low ball with this threat. The photographer is then insulted even more and refuses to budge. Threat carried out, boom, lawsuit for a large enough amount to make headlines in the hopes of a still lucrative settlement. Just speculation of course

I see an outright rip-off with niggling little differences and virtually no attempt at something original in the new version. So I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on what counts as a copy- the court decision holds more weight than either of our opinions in any case

Copyright law aside, imo it's weak-sauce from a creativity standpoint on their 'new' poster design.
