Tamron 150-600mm for Pentax..Coming??

I want to get a lens like this but for now Sigma is the only player with a 150-500mm. Is a Pentax mount for the Tamron on the horizon or should I go for the Sigma since the Tamron ship might never come in?

I had a chance to sample the big Tammy during their Tailgate Tour this summer and it was nice. What are your thoughts??

Sigma maybe.
I was shooting birds at a wildlife Sanctuary and a Nikon Shooter had the Tamron 150-600. I was pretty impressed with the sharpness.

Ditto, shooting last winter with a couple of Nikon guys, they seemed very impressed.

I spoke to a Sigma Rep at the Photo plus event. He hinted that if there is enough interest, Sigma might be making the 150-600 mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary (not sport) eventually for Pentax.

Tamron hasn't announced a new lens for K-mount in over five years. Until they (loudly, plainly) say they will, I would assume that they won't.

The lens you CAN get today will always take better pictures (today, tomorrow, next week, and next month), than a lens that might exist someday.

So what would be enough interest? Could we use the forum to create a post that would show committed buyers that would put an upfront deposit down on the lens? Just thinking out loud?? I would put 50% down to have one in the spring of 2015.

Sadly Neither Tamron nor Sigma are available...

Whenever I want a manufacturer to know what's on my mind in a serious way, I send a real letter on paper via postage. That communicates effort and they get read.

Sigma has plenty of sales data per each maker's mount, and I am doubtful whether a few dozen "me too" pledges of nothingness on a fan web forum will make a significant impact.

While I doubt that the Sigma Sport model will be released in K-mount, I would not be surprised if the Contemporary version replaces the existing 150-500mm offering. My guess is that the Contemporary version won't be available until late spring of 2015 at the earliest.

There are a few interesting theories floating around Internet cameraland that while the Sport model was planned and is being released (there are a fair number of early user shots out there), the Contemporary is a me-too reaction to the apparent success of the Tamron.

Sigma's initial announcement was a kind of a "Wait for us prior to buying the Tamron" move. It is weird to have two versions of the same nich-ey super-telephoto lens issued by the same manufacturer. Especially since the basic opticals are so similar. If the Sport were say f4-5.6 I'd understand a bit better.

Get the Sigma or wait for the Pentax 1xx-4xx f/whatever. Tamron won't be making lenses for Pentax anymore and I doubt Sigma will ever release the 150-600 for Pentax. I've had the Sigma since June, after considering switching to Nikon for the Tamron, and couldn't be happier. Well, maybe I could have wished for a few more nice days for shooting, but this is the northeast...

You realize that the difference between 500 an 600 is like a 20% increase...you get as much going from a k-5 to a K-3 just to keep it in perspective. Apparently the 150-600 is a great lens.. but ƒ6.3 is only impressive as a consumer lens, we are not talking top quality here. In you best light, morning an evening, you may not even be able to lock focus at full reach with such a lens. People keep making out how Pentax not getting this lens is the end of the world. I look at it and think, big heavy 6.3 lens, what's the big deal? Meanwhile I've taken to standing out by my feeders with a Tamron 90 because the light is so poor. At this point I'm thinking DA*200 ƒ2.8. Just int terms of the images I want to take, ƒ2,8 is more important than more reach. My A-400 ƒ5.6 is a lens I hate to try a TC with, because I don't want to go any lower than ƒ5.6. I will if you I have to, and with the A-400 and 1.7 TC I can go right to 680 ƒ9.3, but I try and avoid that. But hey, that's just my preference.

It's not like the lens doesn't work at 680 and ƒ9.3 in good light.

I won't even consider a 500mm consumer zoom... forget about decide to change brands to get a 150-600. I'm not saying there's something wrong with one of these zooms. But you get these threads where everyone has to have one. Just taking the time to say, no, not everyone has to have one. Some of us don't even want one.

I bought a new Sigma 150-500 in 2013. It gave me significantly more reach than my 55-300. Some trade offs...the Sigma is big, heavy.....but so far, I've been able to handle it ok...hand held.

Am I interested in the Tamron 150-600 or the Sigma 150-600...even if they had a Pentax mount ?

Probably not. My Sigma seems to give me enough reach for what I want. But that's just me and my photographic needs.
I'm also pleased with the image quality I've got so far.

If...when I bought my Siggy 150-500...there had been an option of a 150-600...well then ...good chance I would of sprung for the 150-600, due to the added reach. But that was not an option available at the time.

And even now, I'm pleased enough with 500mm of reach, that I'll stay with what I have....even if a 150-600 PK mount becomes available.

It's good.

How much are you prepared to spend?

If money is no object, and you don't mind carrying 3kg, there is always the Pentax DA 560mm f5.6. Unlike most long lens options, it is WR.

I've often wondered how many Pentax 560mm lenses have been sold, since introduction.
