How many smartphone users actually use DLNA compatibility, Chromecast/Miracast, Wi-fi Direct, LTE (here in Italy it's a paid option on the data plan) or whatever else has become a "standard" feature of modern smartphones?

I thought I could through a little wood into the fire...
Jerry Ghionis (for those who don't know who he is, he is widely regarded as the world's best wedding photographer), a couple of years ago took 4th place at the WPPI with an album shot exclusively with an iphone. Nobody knew it was his, or that they were taken used a cell... He also took first place with his D3s, as he has for the past years...
FWIW, I don't even use one.

Hmmm....I read an article a while back that said GoPro cameras were doomed because smartphones were becoming waterproof. After reading the article, it was apparent that it was written by someone who doesn't really use GoPros that much. We use them for multiple angles of action sports. How many folks are going to lend their brand-new iPhone 6 so that it can be strapped to the helmet of someone skydiving...or clamped to the front of a surfboard? And if you're not going to borrow other people's phones, why bother to by smartphones when you can buy a dedicated video camera that does the job better for less? That's how I feel about smartphones getting RAW. It's a wonderful improvement and will make smartphones more capable photographic tools, but it's not going to make them the ULTIMATE camera.

Exactly.
Anything aspiring at being the "ultimate camera" should at least have a variable aperture (as a bare minimum), and to date this has only happened a couple of times in a phone (N86, Honor 6).
Not to talk about true shutter priority, manual modes, interchangeable lenses etc. etc. etc.

At any rate I'm very excited about this news.
