true dat, lol... people always want something for nothing, then they don't appreciate it, because they got it for free.
but free p.r. is useful in the right circumstances... watch the video further down the page, the interview of the artists rep: "it really matters how big your audience is... we have lost jobs to photographers we were up against who had more instagram followers"

what's sad about that is that it personifies the worst of this current social media fad, in that the publicity you are getting with instagram, facebook, twitter, etc. is embedded in a commercial brand that isn't yours, and if you leave that brand, you'll lose all of the traffic and recognition that was coming from being associated with that brand.
so while you do get some benefit, what you are really doing is building up instagram, facebook, twitter, youtube, etc. as brand in the minds of people, but you don't own any of it.
