Youtube is planning on live streaming 360

Youtube is going to live streaming 360 video. They are talking to camera makers in the industry. So I guess that Ricoh is One of them as a partner in 360. Now Ricoh has to make the camera for live Broadcast ing in 360. A professional camera with better performance then Theta S.

I think that maybe CP+ wil be about Theta.

Seeing the 360 weirdname attempt from Nikon, I believe the next Theta will be weather sealed and have upgraded internal bandwith to record 4K video. Increasing and extending the smart phone live view feature sounds natural in that context.

But I doubt Theta will get any coverage at CP+. That would just be drawing attention away from the main attraction.

I'd like to see a series of these at sporting events.... With the ability to angle and zoom in on what you want to angle and zoom in on. For instance, if one is watching a football game and they want to watch the receiver's routes, they should be able to rotate the camera(s) over to the back of the field to watch them. If they want to follow the linebackers try to crush the quarterback.. they should be able to do that. And no commentary.

WOW that would really benefit from 8K video resolution.

360 vid is refreshing and I suppose an incremental tech progression, but I do have to say it seems to me a bit like 3D TV - a "feels like a fad" solution in search of an actual need. Each to their own and to their own solution for their own need, but I don't personally see 99.99% of consumer, film and tv use of normal "fixed rectangular screen" video formats replaced by 360 vid. Sure there will be adopters, pretty niche stuff though.

It remains to be seen if 360 becomes the next success (like GoPro/POV cams) or next flop (like home 3D). In the meantime, it is fun to play with. Flickr now supports 360, as does YouTube, but Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have yet to come on board.

For what I do the Nikon looks interesting. Hope that the Theta continues to evolve.

Indeed it would. If done well, I'd actually pay for a service like that.

Theta is so inexpensive you can try it and sell it for net the cost of a DA50/1.8. Sure, it can be 'just a toy' but if you open your mind you can be quite creative with it. Ricoh must know ( or think) something. They're acting like they have a major success on heir hands.

Any ideas on how to show 360 videos properly in Firefox on Linux? I just get a non rotating squeezed video here.

No idea, I think this is made for mobile devices that show them in special apps.

Chrome + YouTube + MacOS works for me, as does YouTube + iOS

Flickr just recently started supporting 360 stills, albeit at terrible IQ

Safari + YouTube + MacOS does not work

So it looks like a protocol is being established and slowly rolled out. I wouldn't be surprised if the Firefox team has it in their dev plans, but as of now Google browsers and apps are leading the charge.
