Why do some pros have stickers (often with logos) on lens hoods?

I've seen lots of images online depicting pros equipped with lenses that have a prominent sticker, often bearing some logo, on the hood. I've yet to fully understand the practice, but it seems to be so common that I've decided to do this myself (image shot from a compact camera):

So is there a specific reason pros do this, and is this really a common practice?

Is someone sponsoring the pro?

Maybe a regular client, or they get a discount on gear so long as they show the brand even more prominently than the standard branding.

Perhaps I should stick either Nikon or Canon on mine, it would make me a better photographer in the eyes of some picture editors.

I see pro sports players wearing corporate logos on their uniforms too. Weird.

Errant athletes occasionally run into sports photographers on the sidelines, this helps clean up crews know where to send the camera & corpse.

It also helps identify sides when brawls among photographers break out. The first division at sporting events is Nikon vs Canon (the Pentax guy and 2 Sony guys stay neutral to record the brawl), but when only one of these groups is left standing they need press affiliations to delineate new sides. At the end, there can be only one.

The Olympus photographer is crying in the corner desperately wishing people would take him seriously.

Maybe the same as bumper stickers? Although it's true you don't see many "My kid made the Honor Roll at Mrs. Perkins Pre-School!" stickers on lens hoods.

The kind of thing many Canikon users have said for years about Pentax.

a) it could be one of those bands that is meant to stop focus or zoom creep.
b) it could be a sponsorship
c) it could be a self-advertisement
d) it could be that the person is covering the brand logo. There are two reasons for this. First is that the camera looks more low-key without the bright white texts on it. Its not as noticeable, doesn't look as threatening, professional. Second, some people don't like to give "free advertising" to the camera brand. They cover the Canon or Nikon logo until the brand decides to sponsor them.

Seriously? $2K USD a year to wear cufflinks? I think I'm going to poke holes in my t-shirts and get $10K USD a year for everyday wearing then.
