Let's have a look at the CIPA figures:

http://www.cipa.jp/stats/documents/e/d-201604_e.pdf
I fear you're missing the point . The Olympuses and Sonys of the world can try to soften their fall by raising prices, so short term the sales figures go up or in this case fall a little less than the cameras sold.

The key numbers are the one I cited and that is units.
Because units is customers and customers buy lenses in the future.

-36,8% mirrless cameras customers (versus -19,3% for DSLRs) in April 2016 versus April 2015 in Japan. Not even the die hard fanboys would say this is not a catastrophy for mirrorless.

In Japan the mirrorless market was shrinking twice as badly as the DSLR market.

The rising sales figures just show they now all try to abandon the Soccer Mom and sell their wares to the enthusiasts. Sadly their numbers are limited and once those are really saturated the drop will be even worse.
It's much harder to sell a follow-up on a large investment than on a cheap commodity camera.

It doesn't matter how many units you sell if the money they make you is crashing badly. When unit sales are up and revenue is slumping, that's desperation territory.
neither sector is seeing increases in units shipped.

mirrorless was barely able to equal the volume it saw last year(102%); what it shipped this year has all been at the expense of lost dslr market share(90%).

you are confused about a number of things... mirrorless shipped the same volume that they did a year ago.

worldwide yearly, per unit: 90%(slr), 102%(mirrorless)

And when unit sales are up by 2.3% and revenue is up by 28.9%, which is the case for mirrorless cameras?

Whilst DSLRs are down by respectively 10.1% (unit sales) and 16.4% (revenue)?

I think photographers just settled on Sony A7Rii. it is a camera that got majority of them covered for few years to come. Full frame , 42 megapixels and 4K video with decent features, stabilized sensor, now what they need is more lenses. The only thing I can imagine would again move sales is if someone makes a faster camera with better battery life, other than that there are no cameras that would be worth upgrading yet, maybe few fans of some brands might want to get yet another cam to their collection. last couple of years were very active for mirror-less cameras and naturally people should have settled on their loved cameras. While moms and regular people are being covered by smartphones like Huawei P9, Samsung Galaxy S7, Sony Z5 and X series, iPhones, Ipads etc.

Looking at regional market maturity, these figure do show some trend inversion in Europe (SLR regain), and in Japan (ML collapse) and USA (a bit less).
Asia outside Japan is the actual Growth Territory for ML, but in the long run, we could observe some equilibrium btw SLR and ML that will not even establish to parity.

But not in Japan.

This was Beholder's point - there is some very interesting market specific behaviour observed here, and it does not follow Osv's simplistic 'everyone, sell all your DSLRs, they're useless' script.

As man oncesaid “there are Lie’s, Damn Lie’s (Fake News) and Statistics” (67.84% ofStatistics are made up) whatever the truth, action will speak louder thanwords, as we have just seen with the end of 3d (yet again), when the powersthat be in "Canik Oly43 PenRicoh" land, make the decision, the end will be quickfor the losing product line (look how quick the K01 went out), as full frametakes over the DSLR market, I think KP is the new K3, and that’s as good as itwill get for APSC, and k2 will be a full frame version of k3, The mirrorlessmarket is stuck between compact DSLR’S (the Rock) and Camera Phone’s (a hardplace).
