to stay competitive. If they create something faster like 35/1.4, 85/1.4.. why not, even better.
I would much rather have an optically excellent 24mm f2.8 max aperture lens than some f1.x that performs like a Sigma and weighs a ton.
I'm going to suggest a crazy thing here; I don't see a strong need for a new 35mm lens right now. Out of the other areas where Pentax doesn't have a good prime option, going after 35mm seems kind of silly vs, oh, a 19mm f3.2 (dream numbers, just something wider than 20mm which would be great for the FF guys) or a new 28mm f2.8 I could see some replacement for the FA50 f1.4 being useful and a new 85mm for portraits sounds nice although the FA 77 seems to be doing okay in that space.

And whats considered medium telephoto an 85/1.4 or a 135/1.8?
Yeah, I suggest dreaming some other dream about not getting HD coatings on a new wide prime from Pentax.
I went for an SMC DA15 when I was shopping, and I understand liking that version of the DA15 vs. the HD, but I just don't see it happening. I think the aperture blades being round vs. straight is really at the heart of why some folks may prefer the SMC version over the HD.
