My visit to Photo Plus show

This is an annual show in New York City. I only stopped in for a 2 hour detour before other obligations, so just text, no photos worth sharing.

The Ricoh booth:
- The new 11-18 lens was under glass. It is clearly marketed as an APS-C lens. I asked booth staff how hard it vignettes on full frame; can it be a lighter alternative to the heavy 15-30? They understandably didn't know yet.
- I was the only attendee for a lecture. I wasn't going to force him to present to an audience of one. We chatted for a few minutes instead. Ricardo (can't recall last name) is a motorcycle travel photographer using the 645Z and K-1.
- The Theta was drawing a crowd. It's not for me, but it's good to see interest.

Other camera manufacturers. I am thinking of adding a small m43 travel camera to my current K-1 main camera:
- Canon, Nikon, Sony had huge booths as usual. They don't do m43.
- The Olympus EM10 mark 2 dropped price with the new mark 3 out. I asked how to do something like Pentax TAv mode on the EM10. Olympus dude said nothing like that is available. I doubted him and found an answer online.
- I looked at the Panasonic GX850. Tiny camera but very limited controls; it's like a toy compared to Ricoh GR.

There was a new bag company, Atlas. Small company focused on backpacks for wilderness photographers. It was interesting that he brought the prior edition and revised edition to show the incremental improvements. Here's his website AtlasPacks

Software booths were busy. I wonder if Adobe's recent LR reshuffle is driving people to shop for alternatives.

Models at photo shows are the equivalent of "booth babes" at some other shows. They draw creepy photographers; for example the guy who was snapping shots of butts as models stepped up.

The show had several non-photography booths:
- There was a religious cult. They pretend to be a dance troupe, but their annual dance performance series includes preachy messages and themes.
- Skin care products ("Better Than Botox!") were the focus of 2 booths.

Thanks for that lively coverage of the highlights, DeadJohn.

Thank you for taking the time to share this information. It is really useful for those of us who live on the other side of the world, and can't easily get to New York

The person doing the presentation you mention should be Ricoh Imaging Ambassador Ricardo Serpa (Ricoh Imaging Ambassadors).

Best regards,
