It is amazing that this much gear exists for this purpose.
I did some shooting (Nikon 35mm and Pentax 645) at the '84 LA Summer Olympics for Dentsu Advertising, and with so many venues, events, spread over a large area, it truly is humbling as a pro photographer to know you are only one of hundreds.
Most of this gear is for high speed action sports and some of it for video. Both are not the K-1's strengths. The televised coverage is all shot on Sonys with lenses provided by Canon. I can imagine that both Canon and Nikon will have a ton of refurbished camera sales on their sites after the Olympics, although the gear that survives will just be redistributed to other venues like the upcoming World Cup.
