Again, Sigma 105mm f1.4 lens not in K-mount

Couple weeks ago, Sigma new 14-24 f2.8 will not be available in K-mount.

Now the new 105mm f1.4 lens not in K-mount, again!

Sigma has repeatedly stated they have no plans to support k-mount going forward. So why the surprise? Or even concern, is this a lens you need for your work?

not sure how this is news, when Sigma has consistently squashed any rumors that they will be making any new K-mount lenses...

Sigma will make lenses in K-mount when the money to be made is greater than producing another product. Based on the specialist nature of this lens and the 14-28/2.8 that lacks stabilisation and is more expensive than the tamron 15-30, they may be closing in on the bottom of the barrel. The FF market is still a lot smaller than aps-c even the its not shrinking in the same way.

Get yourself a canon and this lens, then be happy.

I think in some situations if a particular lens is absolutely needed then it makes sense to buy the lens and then buy the camera that fits on it. Whether we like it or not not every lens ever made is going to be available for Pentax. It is a small brand and cannot be everything to everybody.

If I needed a 600mm f/4 (badly enough) I would buy it and then get a Nikon or Canon to hang on the back of it. Same with a lot of other specialized lenses.

This is the norm, not the exception.

Do Leica owners complain about the lack of third party lenses?

It's because nobody likes Pentaxians because we cannot take a hint . Become a Sony shooter and you will be Sigma's best friend. Sony isn't doomed. It is so easy. Just switch.

@LFLee, Sigma has openly stated they do not plan to release new k-mount lenses. It's been that way for several years. If you need specific Sigma lenses, change camera brands to something they support. The same can be said for Tamron lenses - no more k-mount.

Is there any evidence for that? Sigma and Tamron may have both reverse-engineered the mount without paying Pentax/Ricoh. It's been discussed before and I don't remember seeing proof one way or the other.

Not enough Pentaxians ever bought the Sigma 18-35mm Art or the Sigma 35mm Art.

People insist we need their lenses, actual sales said this was never true.

I always thought they just reverse engineered it. Certainly that was true in the past (for most if not all third-party makers) when the electronics were simpler (or there were none). If they did it under license, I would expect the lenses they have produced to be completely compatible, but there have always been weird situations and glitches, firmware updates, etc where they haven't always worked as expected -- which I chalk up to the fact that they had to figure out any oddities themselves or play catch-up with any changes Pentax made.

I think it is both a Sigma and a Pentax thing. Sigma can't just make lenses in K-mount, it's done under licence to use the K-mount. They also , started dropping certain lenses in K-mount because of the screwdrive AF, they didn't just have to do a Nikon or Canon mount, they had to incorporate the screwdrive into the K-mount,. That should now not be an issue due to the SDM in Pentax current lenses. Sigma would sell many many lenses to Pentax owners if they did support the mount, but Pentax would loose a lot of lens sales in the process, and I cant see Pentax being happy to let someone else reap the profits, but, if they are not letting the licence for K-mount, they should be offering those lenses. But they are not.

Double edged sword.
Canon and Nikon don't license lenses, AFAIK. It's all reverse engineered.
