Jun Hirakawa retiring in 2019

It seems Mr. Hirakawa (see Jun Hirakawa - Wikipedia) is going to retire in 2019.

A forum user who has been in long email contact with him had the opportunity to have dinner with him around this year's CP+.

Intriguing fun facts and finds, beholder3.

Jun Hirakawa sure left his mark on Pentax lens designs. Would be interesting to know which newer Tamron (his post-Pentax employer's) designs he had his hands in. Fortunately, his insistence on "lens character" and actual picture taking capabilities does not seem to be completely lost on the younger generation of Pentax lens designers, which would be quite a feat in our measurebating times, I suppose.

We should do everything in our power to keep the FA 43 and 77 Limiteds in production and Pentax alive as a brand to produce them.

As far as I could find, Yasuo Kanazashi did, who also designed the smc Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Macro Limited.

According to his LinkedIn profile Jun Hirakawa was born in 1959. He didn't exactly retire in 2019, in September 2019 he left Tamron and joined Kiyohara Optics.
