It is a real opportunity to get some good press for Pentax. I do not care what they do but I hope it is big enough to get some good exposure for the brand.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Pentax next year I believe they will release nothing.

Not sure why Ricoh would want to have anything to do with the 100th anniversary of the founding of "Asahi Kogaku Goshi Kaisha", (Renamed Asahi Optical Co.Ltd in 1938)

It's like your current spouse wanting to celebrate your ex-spouse's birthday?

Funny. But they might want to do it just for marketing purposes.

In the US, companies always seem to be adopting history, if not name, of companies they have purchased.

Indeed but Ricoh didn't purchase Asahi Optical Co., they purchased from Hoya a business formerly conducted by Asahi Optical Co. (renamed Pentax Co. in 2002). There is no such thing as Asahi Optical Co. / Pentax Co. any more: the corresponding company merged with and into Hoya effective on 31 March 2008 and therefore has disappeared.

In addition, the Pentax trademark still belongs to Hoya, not to Ricoh.

1919: 旭光学工業合資会社 = Asahi Kōgaku Kōgyō Goshi-gaisha
1938: 旭光学工業株式会社 = Asahi Kōgaku Kōgyō Kabushiki-gaisha (same company name but different legal structure)
2002: ペンタックス株式会社 = Pentakkusu Kabushiki-gaisha
2008: merger with and into Hoya.

旭光学工業, phonetically Asahi Kōgaku Kōgyō and translated as Asahi Optical, means Optical Industries from the Rising Sun.

And maybe, as a Japanese company, they will behave differently, but my observation was that an American company would find some way to adopt the history of the Pentax camera brand that they now own. For example, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway celebrated three 100th anniversaries in a period of less than ten years: (1) track built in 1909, (2) first 500 mile race in 1911 (3) 100th race {they skipped a few years because of World War}. I know this is different - but in this case an American company would would find a way to have a 100th anniversary.

I think we will see KC as APSC flagship, 2 or 3 lenses (11-18, 70-200 f4 and maybe something else) and maybe some silver version of something. I'm not expecting anything really special.

I bet ;we see the new aps-c flagship, and possibly a 645. But I wonder if they just do something like offer a special silver 100th anniversary edition of them.

This makes a lot of sense, despite the impatient people who didn't want to wait until yesterday.

That would be ironic since the Pentax identity has been tied to the pentaprism for most of the past century.

So I see a big problem.....

The 100th anniversary is the "ivory"........

So they will send out hunters to Africa and make and ivory handle for the jubilee KP.

I still wonder if they didn’t hope the KP would have been accepted as a flagship model. A few upgrades and it could have been.

It would be branded Ricoh if they ever did it.
