K-mount at K-mart.

One complaint of Pentax users is the lack of advertising and availability of Pentax-Ricoh products as compared to the major three, Nikon, Canon and Sony. I am pretty sure that Pentax Ricoh monitors this site. So, here's my suggestion: An agreement with K-mart stores to sell K-mount cameras and Ricoh products through K-Mart Stores should help increase exposure of said products, at least in the USA, and that would make them more readily available. I imagine that it could have a snowball effect on sales in the US and then in the world, especially with all those K1000 sold and their users commenting on it. K-mount at K-mart, sounds nice...

Isn't K-mart dead, though?

They are part of Sears. In bankruptcy as of Monday.

I think you meant Walmart. BestBuy could also add a boost. But I don't see this happening as these companies would demand upgraded products in reasonable cycles. Also not discontinuing a flagship without a replacement in the wings.

I'm not sure jumping onto a sinking ship would be the best branding move, lol.

Didn't Best Buy, Target and Costco (online) used to sell the K-30/50?

I guess Ricoh dodged the bullet on that one, eh?

Chapter 11, meaning that Sears Sears Holdings is granted debt relief while attempting to restructure under court oversight. Whether K-mart survives the restructure is yet to be seen.

Yes, and the Costco bundle was a killer deal that I was strongly tempted to take advantage of.

Costco never had them in the warehouses though, perhaps Hoya/Ricoh couldn't or wouldn't give them the number of units in order to do this.

I think it was in 2015 that Costco in Canada had the K-S2 and two lens bundled at a killer deal!

Contrary to what most believe, K-Mart bough Sears and decided that it would call it Sears Holdings Company, probably in order to bankrupt it and get rid of a competitor. Sears is filing for Banrupcy protection and I believe that K-Mart did not merge with Sears, only Bought it. So K-Mart is not Filing for Bankruptcy, Sears is.

Sears Holdings owns both Sears and Kmart. It was founded after Kmart bought Sears. They are run as separate divisions within the one holding company.

I always cringed when I saw Pentax popping up on The Shopping Channel.

Pentax shouldn't be badged as a discount brand, in my opinion. The trouble is getting exposure to Pentax when every other customer walking through the camera store door wants to "see the new mirrorless Sonys".

I think the future success or failure of Pentax relies on higher end products of the K-1 ilk, not the lower cost models you'd see in a department store.

Besides, the department stores aren't interested in cameras these days anyway.

Phones, phones, phones....
