Could this be the in the Pentax K1 mark3

(SR5) Hot: These are the next two new Sony Full Frame 16bit sensors!!! (speculation: for A9r and A7sIII???) - sonyalpharumors sonyalpharumors

A fast 36mp sensor would be the sweet spot for many people.

In another year or two, perhaps.
I expect Pentax to develop cameras above and below the K-1ii before then.

Yes. But not quicker than at the end of 2019.

With that 60 megapixel sensor they could closedown the 645 line.

Not a chance in hell that first sensor comes packaged in anything resembling affordable. Looks like a new sensor for their cinema line to compete with Red. Maybe an FS9?

I'm not sure a 60mp beast would be priced at such a level that Pentaxians would like. However this sensor combined with pixel shift would be superb. Probably.

Pixeldensity is the same as for the 100mp sensor for medium format, just a smaller cut from the wafer.

It wouldn't be a smaller cut as the support electronics , pin pads, and traces are all dependent on the individual sensor being made. That said I would be willing to bet it is made on the same process and has a similar layout so the cost to develop would have been much lower. Also given that it is smaller it would also have greater yields per wafer and be much cheaper per sensor area than the other. With sensors like this it isn't like they can bin them as much as CPU manufactures do and disable faulty components and sort by maximum supported clock. They might be able to get away by having ones that support lower bit depth or higher noise to up the salable one though.

I agree that it would be nice. Making full use of that 10fps sensor requires a larger overhaul than a "mark" upgrade suggests, though.

Faster mirror and shutter mechanism
Larger buffer
Faster memory bus
Maybe an improved AF module, because there's now less time between shots to focus

Probably most important - Pentax has a serious need for a new processor.

Exactly... they are still using the old 50 cent processors on their cameras. The Accelerator Unit was a bit of an enhancement, more of a core added, to share the load but it could use more horsepower for sure given the processors are going for cheap these days.

But even before then they need some serious research work on the AF capabilities.

Don't think so, this looks to be very high end. I'd be happy with the same performance as the current k-1, but with maybe better af, iq is already insanely good with K-1

this isn't going into any dslr... wake up folks. these are the pano sensors. in my humble opinion it is very likely that the pentax mirrorless full frame will sport the 36 version, which means it will probably shoot 24p video as well as anything else... do you really think pentax will ignore video forever?

historically, the k-5 made the same mistake as the canon 5dmkiv (in that it was all robust bitrate and no functionality), but i wouldn't be so quick to write pentax off in the video department.

Has a real full-frame mirrorless been rumored anywhere else? I saw the hubrid viewfinder patent which seemed close, but nothing that specific. What do you know!
