I agree, Compared to studio photographers journalists get paid next to nothing for their [sometimes actively hazardous] job. I know wedding photographers who get paid more...but I suppose people consider dealing with bridezilla to me more of an occupational hazard than being shot, maimed or captured and ransomed by enemy forces.

Different customers. For weddings the people paying see the event as THE most important in their lives to date. For photo journalists they are dealing with bean counters with fewer and fewer beans to count every day. The math is easy.

All one has to do is read any news article in a US newspaper to realize that correct grammar, usage and spelling are optional now. Reading on line content can be even more painful. Political leanings do not matter either. Some of the articles are just painful to read.

I quit subscribing to National Geographic some years ago after someone wrote some words about the Pacific Northwest that raised functional illiteracy to a whole now level. Just a bunch of words that the author though would make him look like another Henry David Thoreau. I found that between articles like that and the emphasis on pictures over words I was getting nothing out of the magazine anymore. 40 year subscriber too.

Hint to news editors (if you still exist) - Passing a spell check does not mean the paragraph is readable or makes any sense

It will only get worse before it has any hope of getting better.

That professor who's letting students assign their own grades … where were they when I was an undergraduate? I would have spent a lot less time in the library and more in the pub!

A peer-to-peer (or beer-to-beer) grading system would certainly offer a stout boost to ale-ing grades. Who needs a good head on the shoulders when there's a good head on the pint?

And of course, how does a French student hold her liquor? By the ears!
