Originally posted by monochrome I spent four hours at the Botanical Garden yesterday. Nearly everyone not using an SLR was holding up a phone
. The ILC shooters actually had their hoods correctly mounted, which was good because it was a high bright sun. Next time I’ll go earlier. Not that I’m not a noob. When I sat down to process I discovered the camera was set to jpeg sequential, not RAW+.
It was an exceedingly pleasant afternoon, marked by knowing smiles, waiting turns, avoiding photobombing (and letting walkers pass) and a really nice discussion about Pentax while I sat on a bench changing lenses. Renewed my faith in society just a little bit, unlike the Zoo, which is an exercise in conflict avoidance.
Your experiences at the two venues is not surprising.
Very roughly speaking, herbivores go botanic gardens to see all the salad, carnivores go to zoos to see all the meat, and the later group are generally more aggressive than the former.
