The NWT operates on a very different scale than what most operators of powered recreational equipment are used to. Over half a million square miles and less than 50,000 people (half of whom live in the territory's only city, Yellowknife). Roughly 99% of the territory is inaccessible by road. Other than bears and ravens hanging around garbage dumps, people to animal interactions are extremely rare. Compare that to Yellowstone with 3500 square miles and an average of 3.5 million visitors every year.

Go for it Norm! Drones in wild areas are a menace.

I fully support requiring permits for this kind of behaviour, especially drones. I honestly hate drones.

But in general, this is no different than requiring a fee for entry into a park. Kakadu NP in Northern Territory, Australia, does that for non-NT residents.

Commercial nature photography is making money off the natural resources of the Northwest Territories, which doesn't have a lot of resources. Requiring a permit helps upkeep of the area and also prevents a ton of people from trampling around and ruining a natural habitat (hey it's happened before that influencers on the internet have ruined a nice place with their mindless posting).

I imagine even the cheapest #8 target load would work well enough.

Why shoot clays when you can shoot drones?

People have been asking if they can shoot down the drone armada over Colorado.
Growing mystery as unidentified drones spotted in Colorado skies

Yeah probably but wouldn’t be nearly as much fun. Why use m43 when you can use MF?

...because I'm cheap... and have a case of target load...
What's the saying, the best camera shot is the one you have on you?

Or for a challenge, get out the .22 and try for the rotors.

Devil's advocate here. While drones and vistors can cause problems, I think the wildlife officials had better tread very carefully with this science. If drones raise an animal's heart rate that much what does their capturing and tagging animals do? Betting it's worse than a drone.
Thanks,
barondla

I suppose the issue is that one is (hopefully) a one time event while the other could be a more ongoing issue. Personally, if I am going hiking in a national park or some such place, I would prefer to have it drone free. For some reason, having a lot of techie devices floating around spoils the experience -- even if it wouldn't frighten the wildlife.
