Pentax not present at "le salon de la photo" in Paris

Hi,
Very strange marketing from Pentax to promote the 100 years.
No present in Paris, and for the Photokina 2020, Leica, Nikon, Olympus & Pentax do not come...
For the 100 years Pentax Europe, juste littles events in shops in France, and in a museum in Switzerland.

I try to go to Vevey museum / switzerland in november, it's closer to home than Paris.

Fanfoué.

It is nothing new recently. I think this kind of events lost a lot in the last years and not only in the camera market but in general. They are expensive and time consuming and they do not generate enough publicity/revenue for companies.

Sometimes absence is good publicity, too.

If you don't go to Paris to see Pentax, Pentax won't go to Paris to see you. You don't even need to go to Paris for the salon de la photo.
Pentax have a dedicated show-room and shop in Paris. Whenever you are in Paris, you can see and touch and buy any of the Pentax products the whole year around, they have everything Pentax & Ricoh there.

I had the opportunity to discuss this topic with Yazid Belmadi, communication manager, Ricoh Imaging Europe. He told me that these fairs have become increasingly expensive with meagre returns.

In lieu of attending the Salon de la Photo Ricoh Imaging are organising a three-day 'Pop-Up Cafe' close to Place de la République in Paris, in a restaurant/bar/club named L'Atelier des Artistes from 7 to 9 November.

Indeed, it is an increasing trend for companies to hire their own venues around an actual bigger event as that's a big cost saving, and gives you more control and less red tape regarding your set-up. By making attendees walk an extra 200 meters from a main venue, you're also pre-screening them for the amount of interest and prior knowledge they bring, so you can save a few heads that you'd otherwise need to talk to those who know nothing about the products. Is that a good long-term strategy? I'm not sure, but given that the industry is shrinking, maybe it is.

So you are saying that I need to convince my work to send me to Paris on a business trip.

As an employee of a garment wholesale and retail business, I have heard from the senior folks how results from trade shows, both large and small, have dropped as far as sales go. So that means the large expense of being present and paying for a booth, equipment, shipping travel and salaries becomes a less effective method of adding new customers and increasing sales. Since our founder is not social media or internet marketing savvy, we battle to keep old customers and add new. (Very small business <40 employees.)

Way ahead of you, I am already checking conferences around the area to see if I can "present some results"
Alternatively, we do have some friends living there... hmm.

To be more specific in my answer: I presume It won't be 24x7. I also presume there will be some specific events sometimes each day. I'm therefore looking forward to knowing more about the programme.

L'Atelier des Artistes, where the Pentax Pop-Up Cafe will take place, is 800m from La Boutique Pentax (the photo outlet dedicated to Pentax equipment in Paris) but 7.6km from Parc des Expositions, where the Salon de la Photo takes place.

This event is therefore Pentax-centric and not Salon-centric.
