Ken Vensel Photography

I just discovered a new professional photographer who uses Pentax gear. Ken Vensel
He also has a facebook page if interested. What got my attention was the quality of his photos, he uses Pentax, and he is in my home state, Washington.

Thanks for the link. He's done some nice work... I especially like this one:

Tulip Festival, WA - Ken Vensel

I like any professional photography that steps outside the clichéd norms on equipment. Of course there's absolutely no reason why a KP shouldn't be used professionally... but impressionable and easily-led folks might think Hasselblad, Leica, Nikon and Canon are the only horses in town...

Awesome photos there. Very nice composition and he seems to use a wide variety of cameras, lenses of different focal lengths, and foreground ideas. I’m a fan now!

I know those fields well, having bicycled through the area during Tulip Festival several times (the preferred way in my opinion) and also spent a fair amount of time on my knees in the display gardens maintained by the various growers shooting more civilized arrangements. My mother used to show her paintings at a gallery-cum-barn on the tour route and seeing the fields in these shots brings back fond memories.

As for professional tools. The proof of the pro is in the sales and the buyers seldom are interested in the gear unless it helps justify the cost of the image. (E.g. stuff like large format alternative process)

I like his portfolio from "The Palouse". I spent a few days in the region this last spring and we took some of the same shots. His are nicer, I will confess.

The Palouse - Ken Vensel

I have merged these two threads, as its more about the photographer than the KP.

That's fine. We see so much from photographers using other camera systems that it's helpful and inspiring to see what Pentax gear is capable of producing.

Absolutely, and I'm all for it. There's just no need to have two essentially identical threads running concurrently.
