The hyenas are out...

...and they have smelled blood.

It is total instability now in camera division, in various countries people are running and looking for new positions.

Lot of rumors and talks that we can hear sudden closure press release within January-March time.

Some talks are that development team and some equipment can be picked either by Sony or Samsung.

.... and this can be any camera division in any company.... I take no pleasure from this or any other rumour.

One thing is for sure that the camera business is at a major crossroads. When the dust settles it will look different from how we know now.

Same thing happening to all our high streets.

Times....they are a changing

With Panasonic going L mount, losing Olympus would be the death knell of the m4/3 mount and systems. Of course this all depends on how concerned their parent division is with losses vs continuing their camera legacy.

Maybe not. Foxconn has demonstrated an 8K m43 video camera, under the Sharp brand name, and they are partnering with RED at the high end of the video camera market. Video cameras still need lenses and having a more prestigious brand name than Sharp would make it much easier to gain a foothold in the "prosumer" market, which is still a still-photography oriented buyer.

I'm confused. Is the news of Olympus' imminent demise simply one youtube channel's Personal View? Oh Dear.

I’m not sure we know.

{Olympus products were high on my list (five years ago) when I was dissatisfied with what Canon Rebels were producing, when I ended up returning to Pentax.

I had not heard they were abandoning their quite popular and successful M4/3 line. Is this something new?

It is not clear that Panasonic has the resources to provide both L-mount and MFT cameras, so many people assume they will have to drop MFT as a matter of course. Only time will tell.

Did Panasonic have any “camera legacy” other than camcorders before digital?
