These things come in waves. In the long run diversity tends to increase, and I think there will be demand for topic-based forums.

The social element of forums might diminish but the info sharing aspect cant be lost to social media its not open or flexible enough.

Social media hasn't killed the classic message board yet. I honestly doubt it will any time soon.
