Hello, I think recipe to disaster is :
not taking into account technological improvements,
Losing years delays of research and development on these improvements
Aiming only a "niche"
On the contrary, keeping the specificities of the brand and mixing them to improvements, is the best way to gain new markets (saving the existant)

True. But it's hard to tell nowadays what true 'identity' a camera has.

Cameras like the Sigma fp, and indeed all the new mirrorless Sony, Fuji, Nikon, Panasonic (esp GH4/GH5) and Canon seem to tout their video capabilities harder than their stills.
