The currency conversions will get you every time (never mind the differences in expressing numerical values across language and cultural borders) . I thought that might be where you got your number from and to further muddy the waters, Taiwan calls its currency a dollar (which trades at approximately $0.033 US and 3.57). Some news services provide a conversion to a reference currency and state what that reference currency is, but it appears that Reuters just converts to USD without indicating anything.

It's off topic, but I stand by what I wrote in regards to assuming that all mistakes in reporting are the media's fault. Someone from Panasonic would have either provided someone at Reuters with a preview of the press release they were about to release or confirmed to someone at Reuters that the information Reuters had from another source was correct. It would have been better to contact the other parties (Nuvoton and TowerJazz) before releasing the original article on the 27th, however Panasonic is the main entity in this story and it would be enough to just go with their input. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that someone at Reuters didn't understand the information provided and failed at cutting and pasting/paraphrasing it. In Canada, journalism is a graduate degree, but I've seen professional journalists make many simple mistakes when they report on things they don't understand (and the universe of things journalists don't understand is still expanding). 58 posts to go.
