What to expect from Ricoh/Pentax in 2020

While reading about Pentax rumors, I was quite positively surprise of the rumors dated around Jan 2nd.

They state, to be expected for 2020:

1) New Pentax APS-C DSLR camera (delayed)
2) Pentax D-FA 50-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens
3) HD Pentax D-FA★ 85mm f/1.4 lens
4) Two Pentax full-frame teleconverters

Those are pretty bold statements, especially about the two full frame TCs...

But what are the likelihood of those guess to actually come true and when (spring? summer? fall? christmas?)

PS. my apologize if I haven't followed what Asahi man said, I'm lost.

AsahiMan hasn't said anything (his last post is from 3 months ago) so who knows.

I'd say these are all logical things.

I would be expecting a 645C camera (C as in 100 ) as I think that would be a logical follow up to the Z, but maybe Ricoh thinks no one really needs 100MP (and they would generally be right, but nowadays it's not just what people need that sells cameras).

  1. New Pentax APS-C DSLR: that's the KNEW, the development of which was announced on 20 September 2019 with the camera showcased under glass from September until November at several Pentax events commemorating the 100th anniversary of Asahi Optical.

  2. Pentax D-FA 50-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens: that's a hoax based on a joke made by asahi man on Digital Photography Review on 8 May 2019 (a photoshopped 150-450mm). However, there is a 70-300ish 'Telephoto Zoom Lens' on the roadmap.

  3. HD Pentax D-FA★ 85mm f/1.4 lens: a mock-up of this lens was showcased at CP+2019 in late February.
    xxx
  4. Two Pentax full-frame teleconverters: this is based on several statements made by asahi man, the latest here on Pentax Forums on 5 November 2018. A bit old IMO.

There is no proof that the New Pentax APS-C DSLR camera has been delayed.......simply because as many have been saying it HAS NOT been announced as of today thus it can't be delayed. The other items except the DFA 50-300mm sound plausible.

Does anyone know why Pentax hasn’t already released the FF rear-converters?
Same with automatic extension tubes?
These seem to me to be commonly used and relatively easier to make than a full fledged lens(?)

They've actually got two new FF bodies, two new APS-C bodies and a new 645 ready to go, plus a dozen new lenses for the different formats. But in order to be allowed to buy them you'll have to send in an example photo of a situation where your existing Pentax gear wasn't good enough to get the shot. If they decide that your current camera or lens really wasn't up to the job then you'll be allowed to buy one of the new pieces of gear, but if they decide that you're just an inept photographer then the answer will be no.

Yeah! I'm still nailing every shot with my 1952 Asahiflex I, and if anyone else can't nail their shots then they're just inept

It's understandable to miss shots with a camera with no pentaprism finder or instant return mirror. But any camera made this century should suit you fine.

I'm thinking CP+ this year might bring some news. Fingers crossed, but either way, I'm ready to submit my application for approval.

Ah ok. So there should be a "slow" 70-300 for landscape to pair with the D-FA 28-105, and before a 70-200 f4 discussed in another thread?

The biggest rumor about Pentax is that there is something like a rumor.
Rumor pages don’t know what to report and this news and rumors forum asks for official sources to acknowledge a rumors. The lack of news and rumors in Pentax land is far from funny.

I usually have CP+ and Photokina on my radar to look for new product releases.
Are there any other expos/conferences that anyone can recommend where new Pentax gear might be displayed or announced?

A rumor is by definition a rumor. Knowing Pentax history some people have a feeling about what's most likely to be done and what not.

Seems to be pretty much what has already been announced by Ricoh/Pentax themselves, no surprises there.
