It's probably 70% of why I stay with Pentax. The cameras just fit my hands. I've tried other brands and they don't feel right. Image quality is a wash across brands, features are nearly a wash. That leaves ergonomics and menus / buttons which arguably are part of ergonomics.

That is much of what little unhappiness I have with Pentax.
Cameras - like my K-30 - have hand grips which just get in my way today.
Everyone follows the "ergonomic" design pioneered by Canon's T90 ..... but I prefer the older designs.

For me it's important, with the K-7 my only "but" to the otherwise excellent ergonomics is that my pinky was flying around a bit, the K-1 is the perfect size.
Please stop, I might have to buy K-1 😁.
Indeed, Pinky's in the air with my K5

And a sherpa. When I look at lenses like that I think of an ATV with a bollted down tripod on it.

Man, I just bought a K-70.
The K-70 has 'improved' grip over the K-S2 - they sort of expanded the grip out from the body - and for the most part it very much does improve the grip.

However, that damn pinky...
My pinky used to be able to jockey for position on the K-S2 grip, most of the time sliding off and hanging under the bottom of the camera, but still it had a chance...
But the K-70, with the expanded grip, splits the little room my pinky did get in half.
The K-70s expanded grip doesn't extend to the bottom of the camera, and there are a couple mm of 'non-expanded' grip near the bottom.
So my pinky is sorta splitting the difference between a non-expanded grip and the expanded grip.
It get's no chances to jockey for position anymore

Or duct-tape the pinky to its neighbour.

Seriously, I found that my K-3 II provided just sufficient extra coverage compared to my K-5 II, so that my pinky usually finds a position. I fit the battery grip occasionally when I use larger lenses, and the overall hand grip is better.

Once you get rid of the essentially massless hood {I did notice you included one}, the longest lens I have for the KP is essentially the same physical length as the longest lens I had for the "Super Program", and the two-handed hold works for both - "balance" is not a thing.

with the sliding zoom on the super program, that's gunna be a lot more forward heavy than the super lightweight PLM

Yeah, I photographed mine with the manually focused "Super Program".
I coped by using f-stops like f/5.6, so DOF was my friend.
That was then - now they are dealing with things like recalcitrant landlords.
