CIPA April 2020: trend continues

Downward it goes again overall for ILC.

DSLR did pick up and now lead again over DSLM, since the latter continued to drop.

So, about 625,000 units of dslrs in the first quarter---a badly externally-imacted quarter. Let's hope the next quarters show as a rebound...I think they might in a lot of markets.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the hobby of taking pictures. It certainly has to do with the hobbies of finance and economics. DSLR did not pick up, it crawled up a tiny bit. But the overall view is, it is going down. But the comfort is, printing of digital pictures will go on, where we saw that developing films and printing is hardly done anymore, because we all went crazy for digital camera's. As long as smartphones take pictures in jpg or raw, pictures made with DSLR or mirrorless (hey: a smartphone is a mirrorless as well!) can be printed on- or offline and we, that hang on to those old heavy machines, can continue our hobby. Wonder when there will be a Ricoh/Pentax phone with excellent IQ on the market!

On the phone, I would say never. I seem to recall that Ricoh acquired Pentax for some reason....maybe having to do with cameras in automobiles...?

DSLR -- Digital Single Lens Reflex.

DSLM -- Digital Single Lens Mirrorless?

Does this make the Ricoh Theta a DTLM (Digital Twin Lens Mirrorless)?
