CIPA 06/2020 - a little better

So it seems June has improved on the dysmal May a little bit:

All the while the trend to sell the same amounts of DSLR and DSLM has not changed.

Is that second graph the same?

So the factory price for mirrorless is roughly double the dslr, yet they are still comparable sales volumes.

The new bodies had better work out for Canon & Nikon.

The much higher price per unit probably means that the sales of MILCs are higher end (which is most likely). With that average of DSLRs being *that* low one could think it's all entry level stuff.

The right hand side shows factory price, not sales price. It means that it cost nearly twice as much to make a MILC that a DSLR. That may be down to R&D costs, which need to be recouped. DSLR R&D costs are long paid off by now.

The actual name of the category in other documents is "value of shipments", so it's the price that the manufacturers are charging the distributors.

Of course there's no way to tell what the actual margins are and how it translates to final price, but considering that the most sold DSLRs are D3500s and 200Ds, while the mirrorless bestsellers include the Sony A7 series, the logical conclusion is that yes, MILC buyers are getting higher end bodies.

EDIT: as you can see here the average unit price for is higher for the Americas than it is for Europe, while the average unit prices for Asia are much closer between DSLR (53.3k Yen) and MILC (74.9k Yen). Obviously it's not a production cost number.
