Why the thread was moved in "Photographic industry and professionals" from "Rumors" ?
Probably because speculation is not allowed in the news/rumors section? If you gave the source, it probably would not have been moved. Are you under NDA regarding "a famous software" or is this something you have not seen personally?

That's a broad claim...
I'd agree it's very hard (impossible?) to have gallery quality images at that ISO, but when you need an image in ultra low light, at least it can provide an image!
For 'normal' shots, I usually stay below ISO 1600. Maybe pushed to ISO 6400.. especially for Astro shots...

But, I was at my Mom's new acreage just last weekend, we discovered a Great Horned Owl in her barn - no one was able to get an image of it (sister used some iPhone and mom used a Canon SX60 HS... so there's that consideration too).
I was able to crank my ISO and at least get an image of it...

After, I cleaned it up a bit in Lightroom, but still was able to show the freakin' bird to my family - it might not be the prettiest image, but I wouldn't call it 'utterly useless'.
I think I shot once at ISO 102400 as well haha... but this shot below is at ISO 64000.

No NDA but I don't want to reveal what software is because I'm afraid that they could block the possibility to see these informations in the future.

Yes I understand, but my camera doesn’t offer 819200. And older cameras couldn’t offer 64000. And to say I took a shot at 64000 a handful of years ago would probably get scoffed at the same way.. I’m just saying very high ISO isn’t necessarily useless.

My intuition is that I probably know your source. I also suspect that the "specs" are placeholders.

I don’t think even you yourself would view would take this view if you had.
I've shot at 25600 on K70's with decent enough results to rescue a shot that otherwise would have been a lost photo opportunity. I would imagine others here have gone even higher. My guess is the same as yours REH, the OP hasn't actually tried it for himself before passing judgement on high-ISO shooting on a current Pentax DSLR.

The OP did not pass judgement regarding ISO 819200. It was a downstream comment from another user.

Just for kicks and giggles, here are two 100% crops from the PF in-depth review of the KP at ISO 819200.

Hi,

Did you already mention that the next APS-C will be called K-3 Mark III?

And that will support:
  • ISO1600000
  • 4K in 24/30/60p (I don't know if only in Interval Movie mode...)
  • 1/25000 electronic shutter time
  • Exposure compensation to +8 / -8
  • Focus modes from GR III like SNAP and INFINITY
  • DOF bracketing
  • Highlight emphasis metering mode
  • 2 cards slots
You've just opened a can of worms, Andrea!

Yawn.... nothing of interest here. Those specs would address all kinds of problems that I don't have, and none of the ones I do have. The DoF bracketing would be the only one even mildly of interest.
