My point was that I find it difficult to imagine getting excited for having a photo “selected” as special when a) you have no real idea of the criteria, and b) the selection is a result of an algorithm.
It feels really special to see 20,000+ views in a few hours time and numerous comments saying "wow".

Of course, I could spend several hundred dollars to have the same shot framed and another $50 fee for entrance into a juried show, where the criteria is the mood and prejudice of the judges. The Flickr brand of poison goes down a little easier.

I think single in and daily in are factors in explore for those of us that use them.

One thing I really like Flickr for is the ease of viewing a lot of photos of people I follow without having to go through a lot of clicks and waiting for page loads. In fact everything is pretty smooth and efficient and long as they aren't have server problems, which have been very few lately. I also post some photos to Viewbug, 500PX, and have tried a few other sites in the past and they all seem very cumbersome compared to Flickr.

I like when a image gets explored, your photo gets viewed by lots of people, and as Rob explained, you can get connections to other photographers. Sometimes I have had an image explored that I don't really like, but, something must have liked it, so be it.

It will also show photos that were "dropped" from Explore, which I have had, not even knowing that there were in Explore for a short time.

Yep, in 2018 I was doing the SIC quite a bit and was getting Explored almost weekly and for the past year and a half my Flickr commenting activity has been sort of slack as has been Explore. Comment activity certainly has a bearing on being Explored.

When time allows, I will look at the Flickr pages of some of who leave comments, and I have discovered a lot of talented and created photographers in that way.
I'll do the same - and made some nice acquaintances along the way.
