Very cool interview... Thanks for posting.

I met Mr Bailey very briefly at The Photography Show in Birmingham a few years ago. Sadly, not the nicest man I've crossed paths with... he seemed by turns ascerbic and bitter, qualities that he's not exactly unknown for in his latter years. That aside, he's been a phenomenal portrait photographer. I can respect him for that...

He has a new book out, titled 'Look Again' .

I recall he used Pentax ES and ES 11's back in the '70's. Being a long time owner of an ES 11 (black body) I was fascinated by a photo of his Pentax ES...also a black body but with much of the black paint rubbed off , right down to the brass.

Looks like a Pentax 6x7 in the photo, with the 6x7 Takumar 135/4 Macro?

I have two Olympus Trip 35's. They're good enough for Mr Bailey... he said so on TV; and just look at his body of work, which I'm sure was mostly captured with said camera...

To some extent, sure... and yet the fact remains, David Bailey did indeed use Pentax cameras for much of his 35mm work. I'm sure he could have settled on Nikon instead... but, whatever the reasons, he didn't

EDIT: I've just noticed that the film "We'll Take Manhattan" - a docu-drama of the love affair between 1960s supermodel Jean Shrimpton and photographer David Bailey - is included in Amazon Prime's UK library. I think I might watch that tomorrow...

In an interview with Bailey, Bailey notes that he did use Nikon/Nikkormat....but went back to Pentax as the Pentax was more reliable and also he had 'scratch' issues on film with Nikon. I

'm a fan of Nikon equipment and in the 1970's almost bought a Nikon F Photomic body and a Nikkor 50 F1.4 lens. It was that or a Pentax ES ll. I decided to go with the ES ll, which I still have and it still works.

They're both good cameras.

Very sad. A close work colleague of mine from many years ago, recently died of this condition. My friend was a man of many talents, very intelligent, a tremendous administrator , an individual many regarded very highly.
