Finally some good news for the industry.... but how does that break down. Lenses or cameras?

Was the increase in revenues attributed to photography related hardware?

From their PDF announcing 20% improvement:
"(+) Significant increases in G&NS, EP&S, Music, Pictures and
Financial Services segments operating income
・(-) Significant decrease in I&SS segment operating income"

I think I&SS, aka Imaging & Sensing Solutions, includes camera and lens revenues. The only mention I see of cameras specifically is one noting a significant decrease in units sold digital cameras.

EDIT: The Imaging and Sensing segment accounts for camera sensors, but not Sony's camera line from what I'm gathering. In both instances tho the numbers are down.

So this isn't about Sony cameras, this is about Sony 's other business operations in general..... yet it's posted in the non-Pentax Cameras section.

Where do I send my complaint? If it's not about cameras it should be in the General section.
That makes the title extremely misleading.

Just when I was getting all happy about at least one camera company beating the downward curve. My celebration was premature.

Thanks for looking that up.

What of their camera business, Winder? That's of *some* relevance to us, but not this.

That wouldn't have anything to do with people being cooped up in their homes binge watching stuff that Sony sells?

The link to the report is in the article. It's all there.

Winder, let me quote from your own article:

Sales were actually *less* than last year - 649 bn yen versus 650.

"Decrease in unit sales of digital cameras"

Of the 25 bn yen increase in profit, 14 is due to the 'mobile communications' products and 3 because of foreign exchange.

Did you not see any of that?

I think the OP wanted to be proud of his favorite brand and reassure himself that he make the right choice to switch to Sony, by showing positive financial results and have other people celebrate together.
Now if you point out that the cameras sales of Sony were actually down, there is nothing to be proud anymore, it doesn't do it
How about buying a Sony A1 upgrade to the A9? I've seen the specs, the A1 is basically the A9 , but much better.

Yes. What's your point? The article was about income overall not camera sales.

This is a camera forum......
Sony is on record that they will quit the camera business if it turns into a money lover for them. We're I a Sony camera user, that financial report would give me pause.

Should I add my local Loblaws Supermarket reports as well? What non-camera businesses should we be keeping an eye on here?

I post the same thing when its Canon or Nikon, Olympus, or Panasonic. They all make more than cameras. The camera information is in the report. I'm not going to dig it out of the report for you. If you want the information, its all there. If you aren't interested.... don't read the report. Pretty simple actually.

In other words, you've started a rather pointless thread.

I don't know about pointless, it does have some interesting information.

But maybe the headline should have been Sony cameras still circling the drain.
