Every single person can become a Ricoh/Pentax user. It is only a matter how to attract them. Pentax as a brand will not survive in long term without new users. The number of old, dedicated Pentaxians systematically decreases over the time. Some of us pass away, others move to other systems. So these opinions you mentioned are maybe not relevant for us, they are important for the business as such.

And every negative thought, quote, and off-hand remark then seems to result in defensive response. Even when a fellow Pentaxian has a comment that is not complimentary, the wagons begin to circle.

Right now the Latest Forum Discussions list has two threads about what others are saying about Pentax. One is about a guy who switched to a K-1 from Nikon (Oh boy! Oh boy! – validation). The other is this thread about a lone paragraph in a marketing flyer from a used camera dealer referring to their dwindling sales of used Pentax products. The objective of marketing publications is to sell things; KEH is most likely using this flyer to help direct and shape your choices toward the stuff they have in stock and from which they can make a maximum profit.

There is no need for this undue fascination with the thoughts and opinions of folks who do not own and/or use Pentax camera equipment. Pay attention to their judgements and viewpoints about the cameras they own. They have currency to comment on these cameras. But their thoughts about Pentax or other equipment is irrelevant.
I actually read similar threads in other forums - anytime someone can discuss their reason as for switching - or adding - a brand in a way that is articulate and engaging I find it informative. I personally have used cameras from Yashica, Nikon, Pentax, Samsung, Panasonic, Olympus, and Sony.

The KEH info was nothing more than sales information they provided that happened to also have Pentax mentioned. I don't understand why people get so negative on data that has no correlation good or bad on current Pentax sales. People should not read into things more than what they are.

I thought the point of that other thread was to see the interesting way in which that photographer uses his gear. It seems like he is an astro photographer and that is an area that I haven't really dabbled much, even though my K-1 camera is quite capable in the area.

I do feel that Pentaxians get constant negativity from some quarters, telling us that our cameras aren't as good as the latest MILC cameras (they probably aren't but the do still take photos) and that Pentax is in process of imploding (I don't really buy that). When we get someone who says something encouraging about K mount cameras, we are pretty happy and excited to repost it here.

(If no one posted articles related to opinions on Pentax gear, it would be a quiet place. The photo threads are enjoyable, but don't seem to generate much discussion.)

Don’t forget that someone has to ‘unload’ Pentax gear to them before they will have any opportunity to resell it,
so this data may indicate that not many of us are ‘unloading’ Pentax gear - that most of the gear they sell comes from those switching from DSLR to MILC.

I thought the thread title was clear – KEH used gear sales over the past 3 years
The thread title says that, but the KEH article doesn't. The article says only that they sell "mostly used" and the implication is that these figures do include a portion of new kit.

Anyway, I don't get it. They paint a rosy picture of significantly rising sales for many brands since 2019 (+75% for Sony, +105% for Canon, +152% for Fuji) which is contrary to the stories I've seen elsewhere, which tell of ICL camera sales slumping, especially since Covid. Certainly not much has been selling on the used market that I watch, Ebay.

Are these figures numbers of units, or money value?

The article is unclear in this …..they mix quantitative and qualitative measures, perhaps in the same sentence at times.

KEH doesn't sell new gear for any of the major brands. Look at their website which only mentions used gear. Look at the "shop" page and in the filter pick a major brand e.g. Canon and choose "new" for the grade. Zero results. Nikon returns three items: a telephoto lens strap, a soft lens case/bag, and an eye cup. Sony: Quickpro DVD. Pentax: Zero

The stuff they sell new is film, accessories and some 3rd party lenses (7artisans).
