Shhh... Dont' tell anyone.

Rumor has it there is a white knight who has managed to make a deal with Amazon to take over DPR. Give it another week or two and see if it pans out.
The banner on the front page notifying of DPR's impending shutdown is gone...

I view it as a negative- DPR has too much toxicity.

It was all an elaborate ploy to get rid of Chris & Jordan

I suspect Amazon got some serious and well deserved pushback from the DPR community.
However, I also expect this is a reprieve.
Time will tell.

I think it is unlikely that someone else will bankroll it the way it has been in the past.

I totally agree with that.

DPReview could probably survive profitably it were simply a photo news site + forums.

Maybe it was all just a publicity stunt.

Seriously, from the horse's mouth, so to speak:

Dear readers,

We're coming up on about a month since our last update here and wanted to thank our community for continuing to support us.

We know you have questions about the status of DPReview since our last communication, and while there is nothing to share right now, we will continue to keep you informed as there are updates to share. In the meantime, we continue to publish news and features (some of my recent favorites have been a three part deep dive into understanding the science of dynamic range from May 2 and learning about the dream cameras our readers most want from May 8). Our forums also remain open and continue to be supported.

Thanks again to our faithful readers. You are what makes DPReview special.

If so it backfired with me : in anticipation I deleted my bookmark for the site while I had it in mind. I did look in DPR occasionally, but I won't bother again.

I smell a subscription model coming up, and you know what, that may work better.
Personally, I've taken to supporting sites that I believe in.

DPR seem to have gone back to BAU, with the exception that Chris and Jordan have gone. Maybe they've scaled back and found they can keep operating at a much reduced cost and Amazon have decided to let them give it a go though an update from them would be nice.

DPR announced today that they've been acquired by Gear Patrol, a product journalism publication geared toward men that I have never heard of before today.
