I posted this news in the "Industry" forum. Probably will merge these 2 in a while, or another mod will.

Two threads created re this, just a few minutes apart. Maybe best to merge somehow?

And OF COURSE a mod locked it before responding to the member who wanted more info about Pentaxforums.com

The way it was originally written it could be mistaken for a reference to some general Pentax forum on an unspecified site.

EDIT: I posted the mention of Pentaxforums.com in the only remaining unlocked thread.

I am personally saddened by this news, having learned a lot about photography in general from that site in the early Phil Askey days. I haven't visited the site much in the past several years, preferring this site by a large margin. I am concerned what this will do, or maybe moreso, what this means to the industry of digital photography.

Dpreview really is/was the go to website for photographic news and will be dearly missed. I hope they can somehow float it away from Amazon.

At least it wasn't the cult of video personalities or the unbiased and informed blathering's of their troll commenters.

A real shame in my view.

I have had my issues with DPR in the past, but shrinking resources for photographers in general is not something i welcome.

As a website -- purely on the level of website design -- I always found it hopelessly clunky. Perhaps if it had updated its layout at some point over the past couple of decades it might have survived.

It is / was also a question why it floated into the arms of Amazon. The answer is also the reason that it is shut down. But I agree with others that it was a source for photographers, but like any other forum it should not be your only source for information. I will miss comparing the reviews there with Pentaxforum's reviews. It was after all many years ago that I learned from DPreview that there was a Pentaxforum.
