I've used lunarpages.com for quite awhile and am very happy with their product and service.

none of those free registrars are any good .... either nasty ads, slow ass, or some other issues hehe there's always some catch which makes them lame

Been with lunarpages for a couple of years. The one time the server had issues, I called them on a Sunday and they actually answered the phone.

GoDaddy is good too, but I only use them as registrars and domain parking.

I hate godaddy!! Any client that I get that goes to them I instantlyask them to cancel their contract. Most of their automated stuff just doenst work and I end up having to do it all maunually anyway. Some dont know wether to get Windows vs. Linux/Unix hosting so they go to Windows hosting because it is familiar to them. My advice to you, if you dont know what you want, get assistance before you get hosting.

Web hosting

My domains are registered through godaddy but I have my own server hardware. I originally ran Solaris x86 but switched to Linux a few years ago. There are pluses and minuses to colocation, but I'm a systems engineer by trade and find it worth the extra effort.

gimur seems to be great for artists.

i could say crack seems to be great for artists too :P do you know anyone who uses them? because those prices seem a little too good tbh. converted, it's about $40cdn/yr for hosting.

Our company has all of our sites (5 now I think) through LunarPages, we've used them for a number of years now with very few issues.

only an efriend that uses them for his portfolio (frenden.com). for him to choose them over the in-clique hosting options means they're solid. i'm tempted to try em out when my contract is up next year, it's half of what i pay now.

i have an unlimited shared hosting plan with site5, so it's really not that out there for a price.
