The only thing I liked at first glance about the design was the lens release clutch.

Other than that, I guess I had my expectations set too high. No, this does not look like "unlike any other camera I've seen". My first impression was actually a slightly fat NEX with a hump and snorkel-bearing K-mount... It doesn't look that bad really, but nowhere near "unique" or eye-catching. So much for looks. I hope it works a lot better than expected to justify a purchase.

I liked the rugged design of the WG-1 better. If it were designed in that spirit, then I could say it's something that "looks new"

...I hope these photos from ricehigh are bogus. If the actual camera is that ugly, I can imagine most potential buyers will run screaming to buy a Fuji Pro X1...

Thats by design. The hump evokes images of the camel in the desert and shows that the camera is dustproof. The snorkel is to show that it is water resistant.

I'm already there (with the X-Pro) but it lacks a diopter adjuster.... damnation.

i wonder if an option EVF that can be mounted on the hot shoe would be possible in the future, i don't see why not just add some extra connection points in the hot shoe area.

Nope, no confusion here. Thanks though.

The fact that there's no shot of where the VF would be hints (for me at least) that there is one and that it's a secret until the official release.

I've been eyeing the Panasonic GX1 as the next piece of my M43 kit. But I'm seriously considering the K-01 instead. It's going to be a tough choice...

- GX1 with 14/2.5, 20/1.7, and 45/1.8
- K-01 with 21/3.2, 35/2.8 Macro (or 40/2.8) and 70/2.4

The fact is, I don't need either camera, but they are appealing!

The camera looks fine to me apart from the grip and that aforesaid snorkel. I just can't imagine that section of the body being ergonomic. I believe there will be a EVF though and that this is indeed the K-r replacement. It will be very interesting to see what kind of K-5 replacement appears along these lines.

As far as people complaining about the fact there's no mirror: The mirror adds blur through vibrations and can be easily damaged. It is a sensitive moving part that must add substantially to the manufacturing process. If the camera has a nice OLED EVF that will also allow all manner of heads-up data displays as well as custom eyepiece magnifications. Even possible colour balancing for colour blind people. I can only see it as a smart way forward and hope they use the latest, and best, of what's available to grow the system.

sorry but I had to echo that I think this thing looks pretty ugly... It is a sorta retro, but in a bad way at least to me...
